White House vs Fox News

In the past 2 weeks, the Obama administration has been under the impression that they are back in Chicago. Why do I say that? Well, the White House has been attacking Fox News publicly by stating the following:

“What I think is fair to say about Fox — and certainly it’s the way we view it — is that it really is more a wing of the Republican Party.” They take their talking points, put them on the air; take their opposition research, put them on the air. And that’s fine. But let’s not pretend they’re a news network the way CNN is.”

Anita “Mao Lover” Dunn, White House Communications Director

Fox News Channel is “not really a news station” and not much of the programming is “not really news.”

David Axelrod, Obama Senior Advisor

“It’s not a news organization so much as it has a perspective, and that’s a different take. And more importantly, it’s important not to have the CNN’s and the others of the world being led and following Fox, as if what they’re trying to do is a legitimate news organization.”

Rahm Emmanuel, Chief of Staff

Also, the White House has stopped providing guests to “Fox News Sunday” show after its host, Chris Wallace, fact checked controversial comments made by Tammy Duckworth in August. She is assistant secretary of the Department of Veteran Affairs. Anita Dunn said that fact checking an administration official was something she has never seen done in a Sunday show. This administration thinks they are untouchable. Who that hell do they think they are? Just to name a few – Dictators. Socialist Kings. Since January, we have been heading down socialism road. Now, almost November, we are only further down the road without any light at the end of the tunnel.

Why pick on Fox News when there are other news organizations out there? Because they have not drank the Kool-Aid like MSNBC or CNN have. They ask all the questions no other news organization will dare ask. They question administration officials when they lie. They fact check everything. They are telling America to wake up and realize that this administration is not operating in your best interest, but theirs. That is why Fox News is getting bullied by those who are familiar with Chicago-style politics.

Thanks to the attacks from the White House, Fox News has continued to achieve very high ratings. You would think that if the White House attacks had any base, the ratings would show the truth. On the contrary, Fox News has again demolished MSNBC and CNN between 9/28/2009 and 10/23/2009. Fox News Channel had the 13 highest rated shows between CNN, MSNBC, CNN Headline News, with The O’Reily Factor being the highest rated show with 2.563 million viewers. Interestingly, Glenn Beck, which airs between 5:00PM – 6:00 PM while most people are still at work, came in second with 2.135 million viewers. Countdown w/ Keith Olberman on MSNBC with 1.015 million viewers, came in at 14thfollowed by The Rachel Maddow Show. The first CNN show doesn’t crack the list until 16th, The Larry King Show.

Not only is Fox News consistently dominating the ratings month after month, even their repeat shows are beating live shows at CNN or MSNBC. For example, the repeat of the O’Reily Factor, which airs at 11:00 PM – 12:00 AM, is viewed by 1.211 million. That is more viewers than Countdown w/ Keith Olberman and the Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC, The Larry King Show, Situation Room, Anderson Cooper 360, Campbell Brown and Lou Dobbs on CNN, and Nancy Grace on HLN. To go a step further to embarrass “competing” networks, Red Eye airs on Fox News between 3:00 AM- 4:00 AM. The show has more viewers between the ages of 25-54 than the following shows (no repeat shows):

  • Situation Room – CNN
  • Campbell Brown – CNN
  • Lou Dobbs – CNN
  • Hardball with Chris Matthews – MSNBC
  • Ed Show – MSNBC
  • CNN Newsroom – CNN
  • Issues – HLN

No matter what the critics (White House) say about Fox News, the ratings speak for themselves. People have the option to change the channel, but they choose to see Fox News. If the White House was correct in their assessment that Fox News is “more a wing of the Republican Party” or “not really a news station”, the people have spoken and have told the White House to shove it.
